How to choose a portable power station

Understand capacity, output, charging, portability and realistic runtime planning.

Start with watt-hours and watts

Watt-hours (Wh) measure stored energy. Output watts measure how much equipment can run at once. Check continuous output and, where published, surge capability for motors or compressors. Never treat a surge figure as continuous output.

Estimate runtime cautiously

A planning baseline is battery Wh divided by device W. Real runtime is lower because of inverter losses, temperature, battery management and changing device load. Use it to compare scenarios, not promise hours.

Battery, charging and portability

Verify chemistry rather than assuming it. All four current examples publish LFP/LiFePO4 chemistry. Compare AC and solar input limits, compatible panels, charging conditions, unit weight and dimensions. Faster maximum input does not ensure the same speed from every outlet or panel.

Match the use case

Camping rewards lower weight and manageable capacity. Emergency essentials require a written device list. Home backup may require more capacity and output but can become difficult to move. Budget for required cables or panels and compare current Offers only after defining the need.
